Collaboration with Fredéric Maschio
As well as being nice, curious and clever, Fred is a talented knifemaker and a gifted blacksmith (all the knifemakers aren't so good at forging!) He has got many good ideas and he's always here to give you advice. What's more, we have the same view on knives: they must be useful, we both like the nordic style …
As soon as I saw his system of guard and blade in one piece I wanted to use it for some of my knives. The knives are more resistant and easier to assemble. Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's. Even if Fred showed me how to make this system, at some stage all these particular knives have gone through his workshop. Either I just had to assemble the blade or Fred gave me a steel « lollipop » with which I forged the knife I wanted. Then I had to make the thermal treatments and grinds.
